Miss an Event?

For those of you who haven’t caught on, Northeastern University Libraries sponsors at least one event every month, from Meet the Author visits to  presentations by a successful alum. Though there’s nothing quite like sitting in front of a journalist-turned-author speaking about her experiences in Afghanistan or watching the tears fall down your neighbor’s face in reaction to a philosopher’s jokes about life and death, fear not! Technology has you covered if you missed an event. In addition to the iTunes U and YouTube University accounts, the library also has a Flickr page that allows you to scroll through events in a matter of seconds. As the Library Events Photographer, I urge you to check out this page and the Snippets Gallery, both of which feature the authors you may not have had the opportunity to see in person. In the glorious age of technology, it’s almost a sin to fall behind. Happy browsing!

Relive the magic

Meet the Author programs : If you want to see what you missed out on, or just relive the magic, go to the library’s flickr account. Unfortunately, the photos cannot be organized into folders by event because that feature isn’t available on the free account (the max number allowed is three). But I tagged every photo for easy searching. Since I don’t think this is linked to flickr, don’t hesitate to add any of those photos to the gallery

Library of Congress joins the Flickr fun!

Do we have any Flickr fans out there? If you don’t know what Flickr is you must visit it at once. It is an online photo community. People can join and post their photos to show their friends and family or they can make them public for others to see and comment on. There are lots of groups on Flickr you can join, such as bird lovers where you can post your pictures of birds and others do as well and create a nice little community of people with similar interest in birds. Ok now that we know what flickr is, the Library of Congress now has an account! Along with their 530 miles of books shelves, the Library of Congress also has a fantastic photo collection. They have been uploading some of those photos to Flickr for the world to see, enjoy and comment on! They invite people to tag (a descriptive word for the photo) the photos as well.
